Design your own POT HOLDERS

Crochet has always had a special place in my heart. From the crocheted hats I loved to wear as a teenager during the 1970s and my crocheted bikini to the crocheted potholders in all sorts of colours and materials that hung next to the cooker in my childhood home.

Crochet is a democratic craft. You can take it anywhere you go, you can shape your work exactly as you like, increasing and decreasing as needed, and, not least, you can use all the left-over yarn you have lying around. It is easy to change yarn and to finish off and hide loose ends. Crochet has a lovely relaxed and unpretentious character, and all you need is a crochet hook and some yarn. Also, crochet is one of the few textile disciplines that cannot be done by machine.

My design of the round potholder is based on all the leftover yarn from my machine-woven linen collection, which, naturally, should be put to good use. So I thought I’d not share my own enjoyment of the simple craft with others. The design is based on a core palette of colours in the thin linen yarn I normally use for weaving. On this basis, you add individual strands in varying colours to create a gradual stripe pattern of colours that blend together, as in a watercolour painting.
